The Victorinox Kitchen Knife Is A Contender For The Best Chef Knife
Last Updated on October 21, 2016 by Cassie Lyons
When you step into your kitchen and begin chopping or dicing or peeling, you want a knife that works and works well. With the Victorinox Chef Knife, the makers claim that you can feel like a professional from the comfort of your own home. In 2004, Cooks magazine rated the Victorinox Fibrox chef knife the “best overall” knife. Taking top honors compared to models from Wusthof and Henckel, this knife beat those of a similar price range and value. It hasn’t been outright claimed as better than the other two, or other similar knives, nor has the craftsmanship been stated as better, but overall it can stand up to the same tasks.
The Positives
The blade is not a hand-forged single piece, but rather, cut from a blank steel ribbon. This makes it light weight compared to other expensive models. The blade is very sharp and the handle is composed of a material which allows you to hold the knife firmly from an awkward position or if it is wet. The handle contains rivets which make it easier and more comfortable to hold, compared to solid colder handles. The handle is also contoured so you are able to move your hand toward the blade if you want better control of the blade. The blade contained a rocked contour which allows for easier chopping and dicing.
The Negatives
The handle is longer than most knives of the same caliber and can be too long for people with smaller hands. The blade is also heavier than most of the same caliber. The knife is not head-heavy which can be a negative for some who are not accustomed to using things such as ceramic knives. It lacks a bolster and contains a flight flex. It cannot be used in cases such as peeling because of the longer blade and blade height.
So What’s The Scoop?
All and all, there were a lot of enthusiastic owner reviews. According to the internet reviews I researched the chef knife is definitely worth the price. It is a highly functional knife, lightweight, and the perfect knife for a standard chef. It offers agility that other knives cannot with a textured handle.
