Nobody likes to admit it, but owning a home can sometimes be a giant competition with your neighbors to see who can add the most curb appeal to their home. While additions such as front patios, porches, decks, and shrubs are often extremely attractive; sometimes the simplest of details can add beauty to your property. A well trimmed and landscaped lawn is a perfect example. If you want to have beautifully manicured lawns you’ll need the help of a tool like the McLane Gas Powered Lawn Edger. With the Mclane Edger you can have the neatest lawn edges in the neighborhood and your neighbors will be asking how you do it.
This particular McLane gas lawn edger is powered by a 3.5 horsepower, 4.75 gross-torque gas powered engine. This powerful landscape edger offers a 9-inch edging blade and ball-bearing 8-inch wheels. McLane edgers are all constructed with heavy duty steel frames and have smooth cutting performance thanks to dual cutter head bearings. There are a variety of edgers available on the market, but gas powered models remain the most powerful despite the efforts of newer, green models.
The Positives
Gas lawn edger is made of heavy duty steel frames with dual cutterhead bearings for smooth cutting. The lawn edger features smooth live rubber replaceable tires, a single level blade clutch, precise depth control and a robust chip resistant baked on coated paint. In terms of cutting blades, the lawn edger comes with a 9-inch edging blade, and down below it sports 8-inch wheels with ball bearings. Finally, the McLane grass edge trimmer has enough power for most jobs considering it has 3.5 in horse power and 4.75 gross torque.
The Negatives
While the majority of online reviewers gave the McLane commercial gas edger high marks for ease of use and reliability, there were those who did not have a good experience with their model. Even the lawn edger’s dissenters reported good quality work from the product; they didn’t care for the lack of quality in design. A handful of users reported issues with the throttle and various belts giving them trouble after just a few uses.
So What’s The Scoop?
Electric and battery powered edgers may be all the rage these days as people try to “go green” as much as possible, but sometimes you can’t beat the power and performance of an old fashioned gas yard edger like the McLane Gas Powered Lawn Edger.

I purchased this edger from Amazon this past week. Had an edger almost identical to this one years ago that lasted me over 20 years with no problems. Did a lot of reserch before this purchase and looked at several (Lowes, HD, Sears etc.) None of those suited me, mostly China made. This edger arrived in less than a week ground, from Amazon, no damage in shipping and went together in less than 20 minutes. The couple on problems in the reviews, such as the throttle control breaking has been corrected by going to steel instead of plastic. After assembly and putting oil in the motor it started on the first pull. I have done a lot of edgeing with it with no problems at all. To me this is a very well made product and also made in the good old U.S.A. I highly recommend this edger.
William, thanks for sharing your experience with the McLane Edger and glad to hear that it’s been performing solidly for you. Hopefully it will last as long as your previous edger!
