Last Updated on March 4, 2018 by Cassie Lyons

St. Ives Blemish Control Apricot Scrub is a creamy exfoliating scrub made for acne prone skin. It comes in a 1 oz. tube or in a 10 oz. jar, both can be purchased in the link provided. This product can be used facially or on your body. Personally I love this product for acne prevention on my chest and back, but even if you don’t get acne on your body this scrub will give you soft, smooth skin without risking getting acne from using scrubs that don’t address these concerns. The exfoliation with this product is phenomenal and is an essential to remove dead skin and revive dull skin.
The Positives
I’ll mention first that this product is cheap, and not in a bad way! It’s a great product for everyone to have sitting in their shower for when you need it and it won’t drain your budget. Next we need to get to the real nitty gritty positives about the actual product, like this scrub’s exfoliating properties are 100% natural- a real rarity these days. That means the little specks in it aren’t actually plastic but natural products. This is a real benefit because those little plastic beads have been linked to being environmentally harmful. Now to the good stuff the product contains: as per the name there is apricot in this and also 2% salicylic acid. First of let’s talk about apricots. Yummy? Yes. Healthy? Yes. Good for your skin? Yes! Due to apricots’ high values in vitamin C, vitamin A, and fatty acids- they can help improve any skin issues. Vitamin C is great for healing damaged skin, while vitamin A and fatty acids nourish and moisturize your skin naturally. As everyone knows salicylic acid is great for acne, but why? Dermatologists like Dr. Nussbaum discuss how the ingredient actually works. It “…breaks up cells…” that are all clogged together under your skin. Acne is just a group of dead cells that were trying to protect you from bacteria, but in trying to save you they sacrificed themselves. Now this is all fine and dandy, except those dead cells clump together and can’t get out of your pores- hence white heads. Now sense salicylic acid helps break of these cells they can escape your pores more efficiently. This method works on acne and blackhead sense both are just cells stuck in your skin. The acid also has an exfoliating effect which removes the top layer of dead skin all over your skin, which gives a peeling effect that helps increase your skin tissue to produce more healthy cells to replace the dead and damaged ones that have been slothed off.

Why Salicylic Acid?

The Negatives
This product has only one that I would consider mentioning. There is lanolin alcohol in this scrub, and although completely natural, lanolin is not vegan. So if you only use vegan products, this one won’t be for you unfortunately.

So What’s The Scoop?
St. Ives Blemish Control Apricot Scrub is a basis for great skin, so if you’re not vegan buy this. Give it to your friends, your family, your preteens- everyone needs this at some point or another and they will all rejoice at the price tag. You can use this scrub on your face or body and it will improve your overall skin texture anywhere- and it smells great too!
